Martyn Underhill MBE

Former Detective

Martyn served in both the Metropolitan Police and Sussex Police until 2009, retiring as Detective Chief Inspector.


He received a Police Authority commendation for his role in running the infamous Sarah Payne murder case. He then stood for election as the Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) in Nov 2012, winning as an Independent candidate. He increased his majority in his second election in 2016. For his 2 terms of office, he led nationally for Mental Health, Forensics, and the Police Use of Force.


Martyn stood down as PCC in 2021 and became a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Bournemouth University. Martyn received an MBE for services to Mental Health in 2022.
