Fiona Duffy

Journalist

Fiona, 53, has worked as a journalist for more than 30 years. After graduating from The College of Ripon and York St John (affiliated to Leeds University) with a 2:1 in English Literature and History, she became an apprentice journalist at the Watford Observer - gaining a Westminster Press diploma in Journalism.

Specialising in features, Fiona became Women’s Editor at the Yorkshire Evening Press and Liverpool Echo – where she first became aware of Marie McCourt’s plight.

In 1996, she moved to London for a seven year stint working in women’s magazines. While editing a story about Helen McCourt’s murder Fiona came to meet her inspiring mother, Marie McCourt. The two women forged a lifelong friendship resulting in countless articles and an award-winning campaign for justice for the families of missing murder victims.

As a freelance writer for 18 years Fiona has specialised in real life, health and fitness stories writing for publications including the Daily Mirror, Daily Mail, Prima and Woman’s Own.

In December 2019, Fiona, with Daily Mirror staff writer Louie Smith, won the UK Press Gazette British Journalism Awards for Campaign of the Year for their work on Helen’s Law. The campaign also won the Journalism Matters Making a Difference Award in 2020.
