Shelley Jofre

Investigative Journalist

Shelley Jofre leads a team of investigative journalists in BBC Scotland News who have produced the true crime podcast series Shiny Bob, Who Killed Emma? and The Strange Death of Innes Ewart.

Shelley began her BBC career as a reporter with early investigative success, unearthing new evidence exonerating a policewoman who had been falsely accused of leaving her fingerprint at a crime scene. Further digging revealed evidence that saw the conviction quashed on Appeal of the man accused of murder and resulted in a Public Inquiry.

As a correspondent on Panorama for 15 years, Shelley reported on the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal and investigated the mysterious disappearance of Blackpool teenager, Charlene Downes. Over the course of half a dozen documentaries, she dug into secrets held by Big Pharma and her work led to the rewriting of prescribing guidelines for antidepressants and an overhaul of the way patients can report side effects from any prescription medicine.
