Frequently Asked Questions
CrimeCon is an immersive, weekend-long event dedicated to all things true crime. You can read our mission statement HERE.
If you enjoy watching true crime content on television ( SKY Crime, Dateline, Cold Justice, 48 Hours , etc.) or in documentaries (Don’t f**k with Cats, The Staircase, Paradise Lost, The Jinx, Making a Murderer, The Keepers ), listening to it podcasts, or reading about it in books, CrimeCon is for you.
Made by fans, for fans, CrimeCon's mission is to bring together thousands of creators and consumers for a weekend filled with fun, education, and lots of mystery.
One thing to note: While "con" is part of the name, this is not hundreds of people in an exhibit hall. CrimeCon is a much more intimate and immersive event featuring speakers, panels, breakouts, and hands-on experiences.
More than we can say here, but the idea is to completely immerse ourselves in the genre--so that means everything from educational sessions on things like ballistics, polygraphs, DNA, etc., to unique experiences that help us all get a better understanding of the difference between true crime in movies/TV vs. real life. (For example, in 2017 we had a "Jury Experience" where fans witnessed a live reenactment of a murder case and were then broken into juries to deliberate. We also had an "Eyewitness Experience" that revealed some key issues with eyewitness testimony).
And what kind of mystery-related convention would we be without a bunch of surprises up our sleeve?
The dress code for the convention itself (daytime sessions and experiences) is your preferred atire. Individual nighttime events might have separate dress codes but those would be detailed on the registration page for that event.
Cosplay (or dressing up in theme or as a character) is prohibited as creating an enviroment of respect and learning is paramount. If you have any questions on what may or may not be allowed inside the space please email us in advance to discuss.
Umm, no, they LOVED it! We surveyed all attendees afterward and asked them to rank their experience on a 0-10 scale. The average was an 8.8 and 2/3 of people ranked it a 9 or 10 as "One of the best weekends of my life!"
STANDARD badges get you access to all sessions except for VIP sessions. Unlike a typical "Con" there are no fees for additional things during the Con. Things like meet & greets, book signings, etc. are all included. The only things that a STANDARD badge will not get you in to are VIP-only events. This includes most food and beverage based sessions, like dinners, plus some programming.
